RUNNING WITH A DANGEROUS CROWD

Lucas Simone is not the kind of guy you mess with. He’s big, he’s strong, and his eyes hint at a wilder side most women can’t handle. Of course, that’s because his predatory instincts are no metaphor—he’s a genuine Grade-A top-quality werewolf, tough enough to fight his way to dominance over the scariest pack on the West Coast. There’s only one chink in his armor. Unlike most alpha dogs, Lucas has a reputation for protecting the weak and innocent.

Sarah King is counting on that protective impulse—it’s the only thing standing between her and certain death. There are only two problems: one, she’s not quite as innocent as she’d like Lucas to believe. And two, if he doesn’t stop stoking Sarah’s animal lust, it’s only a matter of time before her own wild side gets unleashed…

Let’s Talk Power
Hi, everyone! Thanks so much for checking out my post today—and a huge thanks to my awesome host Joan for inviting me over!

For this post, I want to talk about power. Power can come in various forms—and when you start talking about paranormal characters, well, power can sure mean many, many things.

The hero of NEVER CRY WOLF is a wolf shifter, the alpha of his pack. So, yeah, he knows a thing or two about power. You want protection, you want strength, then you turn to Lucas because he can generally kick butt.

When I wrote his book, I wanted to give him a heroine that would be just as strong as he was…just as powerful. But I didn’t want her to be a wolf. Instead, I created Sarah King to be a charmer. In my paranormal world, charmers are beings that can communicate with animals. (Think the cool snake charmers, but imagine that those guys actually talked to snakes like Harry Potter could. J) Sarah King is a charmer who can communicate with wolves, and while on the surface, it may seem like her paranormal gift doesn’t give her the same power that Lucas possesses, well, that surface glance would be deceptive.

Different powers…different degrees of danger.
Remember the old line about how opposites attract? When I write, I like to give my characters opposite power characteristics. That tends to make things interesting. J When I wrote about my Ignitor heroine (a woman who could burn anything, any time), I paired her up with a demon who could control fire in ETERNAL FLAME. Opposite powers, but when those two got together, the sparks flew.

So, tell me…what’s your favorite paranormal power?

One random commenter will be picked to win a copy of NEVER CRY WOLF.

First commenter: Joan I absolutely love your bookmarks. They are so awesome!

Favorite paranormal power? Wow, that's a tough decision to make. Heck I wouldn't mind to have any. Yeah I wouldn't mind the healing ability but I kinda like to have the shape shifting ability too

Linda 8:10 PM

Some super mind power! Maybe telepathy?

Karen H 8:16 PM

I always enjoy the stories that have a hero that is calmed or tamed by the heroine. I have not tried Cynthia's books yet but will be adding the Night Watch series to my TBR pile.

Sheree 8:16 PM

Teleportation! So I can afford to attend RWA!

Congrats on your new release!

right NOW, heal fast, but other wise, read ppl thoughts :)

LOVE LOVE the bookmark. (just put my name in the hat for bookmark)

Anonymous,  8:34 PM

Congrats on the new release! I have just added to my TBR pile & the book marks are Fantastic!

I would Love to be able to shape shift, run with the wolves or fly like a raven.

Joan Swan 8:36 PM

Thanks girls! Glad you like the bookmarks. :) Good luck! And if you don't win Cynthia's come back, I'll be making more. :)

Julie 8:53 PM

That wolf pendant is preeeetty. :D

If I can't have a shifter (still think it's one of the best powers out there), then an ability to talk to all animals is a great second choice. Think of all the veterinary cases you'd be able to solve!

Victoria 12:30 AM

Hi Joan - I think you have remarkable talent.
As for my power, it would mind control. Things would just be so much easier :). Love Cynthia's work. Thanks for the giveaway.

Camille 5:45 AM

as someone who buys bookmarks not for necessity but usually because they're pretty that one is exceptional! congrats on the new release :)

as for superpower, it's something that few people are actually gifted with- Eidetic memory. I know it has downsides (such as never forgetting a horrible memory) but doesn't every ability?

It would make life easier, ok to be more specific it would make college a breeze LOL

I like the super healing power; general freedom of shifting and running; and the enhanced sense of smell. While the smell thing could be tricky (bad smells, eww!), I love when an Alpha "scents" his mate. *ah, swoon* :)

Cynthia, congrats on the new release!! Can't wait to read.

Hi, Joan! Thank you so much for having me over today! And for those amazing bookmarks. Have I mentioned how awesome you are?

Raonaid, I think having the ability to shapeshift would be so much fun. Like Sam from True Blood, I'd want to shift into all sorts of animals.

Cynthia Eden 6:34 AM

Oh, Linda, telepathy would be a rocking power. :)

Hi, Karen! Thanks for adding them to your TBR pile!

Cynthia Eden 6:34 AM

LOL, I want that power, too, Sheree! No RWA for me. :( And thank you for the congrats!

Blackroze37, I'd love to know what folks are thinking sometimes. Other times...maybe not.

Cynthia Eden 6:34 AM

Julie, I'd love to know what animals are thinking! Fun!

Hey, Victoria! Thanks for entering the giveaway! Mind control--wicked woman--what a great power!

Cynthia Eden 6:35 AM

Now, Camille, that is an interesting power. Never forgetting anything? Definitely interesting...

Thanks for the congrats, Barbara! A super healing power would sure come in handy...

scottsgirl1982 6:41 AM

Oh my goodness that bookmark is EPIC! I think my favorite Paranormal Power would have to be.... shifting... I would LOVE to be able to shift into any animal that my heart desired... so yeah ... SHIFTERS FTW!

I can't wait to read the book!

michele 8:55 AM

If I could have a paranormal power I would want to be a healer.

The bookmarkers are gorgeous!!!!

Maureen 9:19 AM

Congratulations on your new book. I don't know what my favorite power would be, I do like it when the hero and heroine can read each others thoughts or talk to each other without speaking.

Cynthia Eden 9:48 AM

scottsgirl, I think that bookmark is pretty epic, too. :) Joan is the bookmark master!

Thank you, Jess!

Cynthia Eden 9:48 AM

Hilleary, I wish I could move faster, too. I often feel like I'm stuck in super slow mode.

Jary, thanks for checking out the post! Teleporting and healing are both pretty phenomenal powers.

Cynthia Eden 9:49 AM

Michele, I bet you'd make a great healer!

Thanks for the congrats, Maureen! Oh, and I like that psychic connection between characters, too.

Cynthia Eden 9:49 AM

Joan, those bookmarks are so cool! You are skilled!

KhelseyJackson 10:16 AM

Those bookmarks are incredible!

The book sounds awesome :D

My favorite paranormal power to read about is super fast reflexes!

Megan 12:22 PM

Very cute book marks. I think Danika's power in the Lord of the Underworlds is cool that she is the all seeing eye. It would be freaky, but cool.

Cynthia Eden 12:38 PM

Thank you, booklover! So glad you enjoy the stories!

Hey, you never know, ilona! Today could be your lucky book day. :)

Cynthia Eden 12:39 PM

Donnas, I used to love the guy who could teleport on heroes. So cool!

Romanceaholic, I could use those fast reflexes!

Cynthia Eden 12:39 PM

Megan, Joan is bookmark-talented! Danika's power sounds very cool...and maybe freaky (but in a good way!).

Diane 1:35 PM

I'm sure shape-shifting in itself would be more than enough for me but teleporting would be nice too!

Sharon 2:19 PM

I have to jump on the teleporting bandwagon. Imagine being able to travel in the blink of an eye...and no TSA...!

Love Cynthia Eden's paranormals, and the romantic suspense novels, too. I am actually reading Never Cry Wolf on my Kindle now, so just put me in the bookmark hat. Wow, the bookmark is awesome!

rvabooklover(at) gmail(dot)com

Cynthia Eden 2:49 PM

I think it would be enough for me, too, Diane!

Sharon, no TWA would just be downright awesome. Sign me up for that! And I hope you're enjoying the story!

xander_316 5:16 PM

awesome!! happy release day!!

my favorite paranormal power would have to be Necromancy – communicating by magic with the dead to learn about the future :)

Cynthia Eden 6:31 PM

Thank you, xander! And, wow, very cool power!

Cynthia Eden 6:32 PM

Thanks for all of the great comments, today! Hope everyone has a fabulous night.

And, Joan--thanks for being the hostest with the mostest! :)

Anonymous,  6:38 PM

Even since it was featured on an episode of The Bionic Woman (am I aging myself? Ah, who cares!) I've been interested in telekinesis. Teleportation, time travel, mind reading are cool, too. But telekinesis is my favourite.

But if I could only pick one super power to have as my very own, it would be power over the dreaded comma. Commas are my kryptonite!

Raonaid Luckwell 6:52 PM

Cynthia I have a character like that - who can shape-change into any animal. She's an old and retired role playing character of mine.

Joan Swan 7:26 PM

Okay, I must have missed it earlier, but scottsgirl called my bookmark (well, really Cynthia's bookmark) EPIC. EPIC! How FUN is that? :)

Joan Swan 7:27 PM

Oooo, hi Sherry! Good to see you here! (Everyone, Sherry will be chatting with us in August! LOTS of awesomeness there!)
