Jeanne Adams Guests With Giveaways!

by Jeanne Adams

Hi Joan! Thank you so much for having me on today! I’m delighted to come and hang out at your place for a bit, since you always have such fun guests. You also make FABULOUS bookmarks! Love those.

As you know, my fourth book with Kensington, DEADLY LITTLE LIES, the sequel to Deadly Little Secrets, is out today! WOOHOO! Since Deadly Little Secrets was featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine (Aprill, 2011), I’ve been getting lots and lots of emails about when I’m going to tell Davros and Carrie’s story. Thankfully, I’d already turned it in – that would be DEADLY LITTLE LIES.

As DEADLY LITTLE LIES opens, billionaire businessman Davros Gianikopulos, called Dav, has decided that it’s long past time he settled down. The events portrayed in Deadly Little Secrets showed him that life and time are precious. He’s decided to seriously court the woman he really wants – something he’s avoided, due to his own issues – but on their first “real” date, they’re kidnapped, drugged, and hauled off to points unknown! Eeek! Now THAT’s a first date, right?

In this excerpt, Carrie’s still a little woozy from the drugs they’ve given her, but she knows her mind when it comes to Dav.

“We could die here,” Carrie muttered and he heard the fear again. “We could die.”

“No,” Dav made it a statement, not a question. He would not allow that possibility. She was his future. He would not allow it to be otherwise. He would use the stubborn will that helped him survive his father and countless business rivals; he and Carrie would survive. “We’ll make it out of this. My people, they’ll know to get Gates. He has all manner of ways to figure out what’s happened. He’ll find us. He and Ana are the best.”

“But they don’t work for you anymore,” she said, stating the obvious.

“I know, sweetheart,” he said smiling into the dark. “But friends don’t worry about little things like that. They’ll find us.”

"Dav,” she murmured, sliding her hands up to touch his face. “Dav, why did we wait?”

Dav was distracted momentarily by the shift in the sound of the engines, the subtle drop in the slant of the cabin. “Wait?” he replied, still thinking about the change in the plane’s attitude. “Why did we wait for what?”

Evidently, her question was rhetorical. He looked down into her eyes, loving the feel of her hands on his face. While he recognized all his reactions were off-kilter from the drugs though not as badly skewed as Carrie’s, just the touch of her, the feel of her in his arms no matter the situation, was inflaming his body, his mind and senses.

“Carrie?” he whispered, seeing the dark of her eyes, feeling every inch of her in new ways.

“We fought it, Dav, both of us,” she said, her voice serious, but her eyes were still deeply dilated, the effect of the drugs. “We waited for the right time. We didn’t make a move, either of us.”

While he was puzzling through what she meant, she shifted closer, whispering, “Don’t wait anymore. Kiss me now, just in case. I need to know how it feels, I need,” she trailed off, quieting in order to bring her lips to his.

The connection was instant and powerful. Every thought of the plane, of their situation sank out of his mind, replaced by the magnificent roar of triumph in his heart. No pain could compare to the sweetness, the fire of her mouth moving on his. All hesitancy fled as she pressed into him, wriggling closer, heating his body. Nothing mattered but Carrie. Nothing was real or present but her mouth.

The pain in his hands and shoulders throbbed a counter point to his body’s needs. He ignored the pain and focused on the pleasure.

He might never get another chance.

“Dav, oh, Dav, I…I…” she stumbled over the words, pressing kisses to his face, her bound hands cradling his jaw.

Whatever else she might have said was lost when the plane banked hard again. Now she fell into him, slamming her head into his chin as the altitude dropped.

He knew it wasn’t the time or the place, and that Carrie was reacting to the drugs, but the confirmation that she was interested, attracted, gave him hope despite their dire state of affairs.

     While there’s life, there’s hope.

All in all, a pretty disastrous first date! But, there is indeed hope for both Dav and Carrie, as you’ll see in Deadly Little Lies!

What was YOUR worst first date?

What about the best?

If you have a significant other, was there one thing they did on that first date that told you “this is the one”?

On some of those stinker first dates, what was the thing that told you immediately that this one was a “kick-it-to-the-curb” kind of date?

I'd sure hate to have a first date like that kidnapped, drugged, and hauled off to places unknown. Yea that wouldn't be my ideal first date with someone. Thanks for the giveaway!!!

This sounds like a book that will keep the reader's eyes popping open! I certainly have never had a first date like this and, quite frankly, rather pleased that I "missed out." OK. Confession time. I'm in my 60's and married for 45 years. I don't remember any first dates except for the one with my (now) husband. I admit that I totally fell in love with him that night. He's my hero. Thank you for the review, Joan. I was lucky enough the win the gorgeous Victoria Dahl bookmark for "It's Always Been You" so I want to tell other commenters that I hope they're as lucky!

Maureen 6:04 AM

It has been many years since I have dated but I don't have any horrible date stories that I can remember. I think it's a great opening though to have the action start like that.

Hey Temara! Thanks for stopping by! I had to LOL as it wouldn't be my ideal first date either, but it seems to work for Carrie and Dav! Grins.

Have you had a real-life worst-first?

Jeanne Adams 6:39 AM

Awww, that's fabulous, Connie! I'm lucky enough to have met that "Mr. Right" the second time around, and he's all that and a bag of chips, as they say. :)

Aren't Joan's prizes fabulous? Yay you on winning that Victoria Dahl book. Was it superb reading?

Jeanne Adams 6:41 AM

Hi Maureen! Thanks for popping in! And congrats on not having any bad date stories! That's great. Any heart-stoppers, or great first dates?

Jesi Lea Ryan 6:51 AM

My husband and I had been friends for a while before I agreed to go on a date with him. I knew he was "the marrying kind," not someone to date casually. Anyway, we had a fun first date with dinner and miniture golf and a walk down by the lake. Then (and this totally embarrasses me), he came home with me and never left. Yes, he ended up moving in with me on our first date, even though it was the last thing we had planned. He continued to pay rent on his apartment for nine more months, but he was living at my house and only stopping over there once a week to pick up mail. It is ten yrs later & we are still perfectly happy!

Jeanne and Joan, what a fun post! I love this excerpt. Joan, the bookmark is fabulous!

I didn't know the dh was "the one" on our first date, but the fact that lunch lasted three hours hinted at the possibility.

I had only one awful first date, in college, a blind date, and I think it was mostly due to our being completely incompatible.

Destiny Booze, Novelist 7:03 AM

I knew my husband was the one when he wouldn't stop asking for that first date. It took months for me to finally say yes. lol He showed me he was a keeper!

Karen H,  7:25 AM

I was a dispatcher for a delivery company in Chicago and my DH worked the same in N.Y., after 6 months of talking everyday he was transfered to Chicago. We never had normal dates because I was 16 and he 24, my Mom would only let us go out together if my 8 yr old brother was with us for almost 2 years. I knew he was a keeper then and I'm still amazed that he put up with this and that we are still together 31 years later.

Best date was my husband and I's first date. Wasn't anything special but just fun times playing pool, eating pizza and talking.

Happy Release Day Jeanne!!! Very excited about this book, can't wait to see what you have in store for Dav and Carrie :)

Hey Jeanne -

Love that excerpt!

First date that made my husband a keeper - he wasn't intimidated by being the first guy to get up and dance (rock & roll) at the bar where we met. I do love to dance.

Sign that I wouldn't go out with someone again - when he looked over on the drive home and said with a certain anticipatory admiration - "what a set of jugs..." Needless to say, he should have kept his mouth shut. Sitting on the opposite side of the car with both hands firmly on the wheel was about as close as he got to "the girls" ever.

Jeanne Adams 8:38 AM

Oh, wow, Jesi Lea! That's outstanding! Obviously you both "knew" on that first date. What attracted you to him?

Jeanne Adams 8:40 AM

Hi Nancy! Thanks for coming over! You said:

Heehee. Yeah, that's usually a good sign. My first date with my DH was a four-hour dinner. Grins. I wondered later to my sister if he really liked me. Picture her rolling her eyes here. "If a man goes out and actually talks WITH you for four hours and not AT you? He's interested." Grins. We're at 14 years later, so yeah, he was interested.

Jeanne Adams 8:41 AM

Hey Destiny! What a great beginning. You said: I knew my husband was the one when he wouldn't stop asking for that first date. It took months for me to finally say yes. lol He showed me he was a keeper!

Way to go, hubby! Grins. Persistance pays off, just like it did for my hero, Dav.

Jeanne Adams 8:44 AM

Hey Karen! What a great story!

I loved this part: my Mom would only let us go out together if my 8 yr old brother was with us for almost 2 years. I knew he was a keeper then and I'm still amazed that he put up with this and that we are still together 31 years later.

How does your little brother feel about this, all these years later? Grins.

Jeanne Adams 8:46 AM

Hey Michele! So glad to see you here!

You said: Happy Release Day Jeanne!!! Very excited about this book, can't wait to see what you have in store for Dav and Carrie :)

Woot! Hope you enjoy it!

Jeanne Adams 8:48 AM

OMGosh, Donna! That would make for a terrible date. Eeek!

Hahaha! Men are so stoopid sometimes...grins.

My first date nightmare was fairly tame I guess- he had worked a double shift & fell asleep in the theater - could have been much worse! Can't wait to read Dav & Carries story!

I know it sounds corny, but I knew before I ever went on a date with my husband that he was the one. It was a case of love a first sight when I spotted him at a high school graduation party across the room. We married 5 years later. Sounds like something out of a romance novel!

Suzanne Ferrell 9:21 AM

Hey Jeanne!

I do have to say that the first time I kissed my husband I "knew" he would be my husband. Something in that kiss was different from any other kiss I'd ever had. :) That was 30 years ago!

Jeanne Adams 9:43 AM

Hi Jeannie! You said: he had worked a double shift & fell asleep in the theatre

Heehee. Yeah, I guess it could have been worse, but still....Grins. Did you go out with him again?

Jeanne Adams 9:45 AM

Judi L, I LOVE that! How cool that you knew. Was it just the way he carried himself, or his personal presence? What made you "know"?

Inquiring minds...Grins.

Jeanne Adams 9:46 AM

Awww, Suz, I LOVE that! Kissing is such a good barometer, isn't it? Once you've kissed 'em, you kinda know if you want to ever do it again.

And if you don't? Eeek! No second date. Grins.

My first date with my husband of 10 yrs was a 1500 mile one way trip to see him in Canada (I'm from the States). We met on the internet playing games online.....started talking thru IM's then the phone. You don't want to know how much my phone bills were! LOL I came for a visit over 10 yrs ago and never left......

Anonymous,  10:31 AM

sounds like a great book! I can't wait. I do have a So, my DH. We've been married 15yrs. Our first date wasn't the moment, more like the first time we met. He was laying on the floor at his parents' home, where I went with his cousin(did NOT want to go) and he says "you turned my world upside down" because his first view of me was me upside down. ROFL. I think I knew then, but didn't accept it until weeks later when my mom met him and said "dang you're getting married". Nope he hadn't asked yet but she just knew too. We were married 1yr and 10days after that day we met. Can't imagine not being together.

This book sounds awesome!

Aww, that's totally awesome, Jackie!

Had to LOL though, as you said: You don't want to know how much my phone bills were! LOL I came for a visit over 10 yrs ago and never left......

Grins. Love it!

Christine A.,  11:02 AM

Wow- this book sounds so good. I can't wait to read it. The worst date I had was being asked out and then having to pay because he didn't have enough money. Best date- I will let you know when I have one.

kissablysweet1 11:03 AM

One worst first date ..I knew he was a kick-to-the-curb kinda guy when all he could talk about was his ex wife. How much he loved her and wanted her back but she wouldn't have anything to do with him. lol. I left 1/2 way through the meal, emergency at home dontcha know.

Best first date..hmm...don't think I've had one yet. Seems something always goes wrong with the men I meet and I know immediately they are not the one.

Even my ex husband and I got married because friends thought it was the right thing to do...not cause I was pregnant, or anything...we didn't love each other as a couple should, we were just great friends. LOL.

(Waving madly) Luckily I have never had any weird or horrible dates, but I never had a spectacular first date either. They were pretty mellow and casual.

Wendy, that is so fun! Had to LOL about you "turning his world upside down"! Heehee.

You also said: I think I knew then, but didn't accept it until weeks later when my mom met him and said "dang you're getting married". Nope he hadn't asked yet but she just knew too. We were married 1yr and 10days after that day we met. Can't imagine not being together.

OMGosh, another non payer! Eek!

You said: The worst date I had was being asked out and then having to pay because he didn't have enough money. Best date- I will let you know when I have one.

And here's hoping you have a FABULOUS first date sometime soon. Grins.

I was actually seriously seeing this guy at one point before I met my DH, and we'd gone out about 6-8 times, when he said, "Okay, I've proved I can pay for dates now, so how about we go Dutch from here on out. It's not like you're not working."

Wha...? *boot* Kick-to-curb. Grins.

Jeanne Adams 11:57 AM

Oh, Kissablesweet, that's just...Oh, my.

I had a few of those. Yuck. And aren't those "home emergencies" handy? Heehee. Love it!

Jeanne Adams 12:00 PM

Hey Chellyreads! So good to wee you over here!

You said: he's a kick-to-the-curb kinda guy when he keeps picking up his phone to text or if he dominates every conversation or if his cologne is too over-powering.

Ohhhhhh, yeah. Especially the cologne. Eeek! Hate the heavy-handed cologne wearers. If they hug you or touch you, you can't get it OFF. Bleech. :> And the phone thing? Don't you want to say, "Give it a rest, buddy!" Or text him, "Tks 4 a horrible date. G'nite!" and leave. Snork!

Jeanne Adams 12:02 PM

Hey Jane! *Waving madly back*

Sometimes that's so nice though, isn't it? Mellow and casual lets you see good stuff about a person, even if it isn't stuff you want for the rest of your life, it's not hard to go on the date. :>

Anna Campbell 12:34 PM

Swinging by to wave at two of my fave peeps (as we say in the trade!). Hiya Miss Jeanne. Hiya Miss Joan! Jeanne, I've been DYING to read Deadly Little Lies ever since you kept me up all night reading Deadly Secrets. I can see another sleepless night in my future - and I'm excited! x

Jeanne Adams. 12:48 PM

WOOT! Anna Campbell's in da howz! Hey girl! So glad you could drop by. Isn't Joan wonderful? Grins.

I'm thrilled to have kept you up all night. Really. I'd say "sorry" but I'd be lying. Grins. It's music to my ears. Heehee. Thanks!

donnas 12:53 PM

Kick it to curb was when they were so boring they barely spoke and only talked science and weird experiments.

bacchus76 at myself dot com

Jeanne Adams 12:59 PM

Hey Donna S! Love the kick-it-to the curb. Snork. And yeah, if they talk "Beaker-head-ese" all night, they are definte "kick" material. I dated a lot of scientists - worked in a Research Park - and it was sometimes like living in Weird Science. However, most of them liked a bit of normal with thier beakers. Grins.

SiNn 1:08 PM

worst sate ever was when my boyfriend picked me upa nd we had to rescue a friend of my aunts who later had body shots off my boyfriend yeah that counts more so because we didnt even get to go to the movies

Since my worst dates were just boring, I guess I was lucky. I'm easily amused so being boring is a really big problem for a date.

ironss [at] gmail [dot] com

Modokker 1:15 PM

Worst date was a blind date and the guy tried to suck my face off when he kissed me. Little to agressive for me. Best was watching movies with my not yet husband on a Barge in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War. We lived on a bardge type house boat dorm thing and some evenings they showed movies on the roof. Movies with Neer Beer and popcorn. OK i had pop and Neer Beer is non alcoholic beer. He was so easy to talk to it was nice. We'll be married 20 years next June.

Lisa B

Jeanne Adams 1:59 PM

OMGosh, SiNn! That's out there on the bad date scale. First you rescue her - and she's not even YOUR friend - then she moves in on your man? Yikes! Yep. Bad date.

Grins.

Jeanne Adams 2:01 PM

Hey Sheree! Great to see you over here. :> I'm with you, as I'm pretty easy to amuse, it's a HUGE x-mark if you bore me to tears.

Kick. To. Curb.

Grins.

Jeanne Adams 2:04 PM

Hey Lisa B! Aww, man that's cool! Love it!

Outstanding. And thanks to you both for your service. :>

As to the bad, I despise the face-sucking-morons. Snork. The other bad one is the octopus, whose hands/arms are wandering menaces.

So glad not to have had to deal with that for 14 years. Grins. However, it was fun to put Dav and Carrie in that vulnerable position.

I like makin' 'em squirm!

Whoo hooo, Jeanne, swinging by from Romance Bandits to say congrats again on the release of DEADLY LITTLE LIES. I started it last night on my Kindle and it's everything it promised to be!

Ah, I cancelled the first date with my lovely husband, but his voice was so sexy over the phone that I laid the apology on very thick. Love a man with a sexy voice!

Anonymous,  3:57 PM

I didn't have many but my worst date in high school was a kid who was asking everyone - he wasn't very popular but I felt sorry for him. We were to go to the movies. I lived way out in the suburbs and was shocked when he came to my house walking! Well, the theater was not close either so I made my parents drive us and then pick us up and take him home too. I think I unintentionally embarrassed him. But at least he didn't ask me again. I met my future husband shortly after that. We've been married 41 years!

I love it! I think it was really nice, actually, that you got your parents to drive. He might have been embarassed, but darned if I'd'a walked either!! Snork!

And Congrats on those 41 years. That's outstanding!!!

My worst date was with this guy that kept saying things like,"The women I date always tell me where there going." and other weird things like that. I could tell he was one of those controlling abuser types. I couldn't wait to get away from him and then I never accepted another call from him. I always told everyone if he calls I'm not here! What a creep!

Jeanne Adams 6:01 PM

Hey Jean! Wow, you were really smart to avoid that one!

So true! What a total creep! Eeek!

Robin 9:01 PM

My worst date's opening statement was, "We're going Dutch, you know, I'm not made of money." This was even before, "Hello, nice to meet you." Can't think of a best date... There was nothing on my first date with my significant other that told me he was the one, other than the sparks between us!

So excited about this book , Jeanne. I'm saving it as my reward for when I turn in my proposal!

My cousins were like this too. He blew the date - awful! - and then decided she was "the one" and spent the next 2 years trying to get her to give him a second chance. Grins. Since they've been married for about 28 year, I'm thinking that worked out. Ha! Glad it did for you too.

Jeanne Adams 11:29 AM

Thanks Joan! Thanks so much for having me!! This has been a lovely fun time. :>
