NYT Bestseller Caridad Pineiro on THE LOST + Giveaways!

>> Friday, October 07, 2011

I'm very excited to have Caridad Pineiro on the blog today!  She's hear to give a little background about her latests release, THE LOST.  Make sure you leave a comment or ask Caridad a question to be entered to win a lost T-shirt, an ebook of Caridad's ROOKIE OF THE YEAR and 1 of 5 of my custom handmade THE LOST bookmarks. (Couldn't post them here, but see prior giveaways for example.)

THE LOST:
Adam Bruno is no ordinary millionaire. The heir to an ancient race possessing a dark, powerful magic, he can shapeshift and create energy. His gifts make him a living weapon and have forced him to live in seclusion. But now an inhuman force hunts down Adam-just when he finds someone who makes him feel more human than he ever imagined possible . . .

Home from combat in Iraq, Bobbie Carerra wants only peace, yet soon joins Adam in a terrifying battle against paranormal enemies who hide in plain sight. She’s drawn to his strength of mind and body; he’s attracted to her courage and intoxicating energy. Their scorching passion can either transport them to the heights of ecstasy or-if Adam’s powers rage out of control-destroy them. But when an invisible brotherhood tightens its nets and someone Adam trusts betrays him, only a heartrending decision can save them.

Thank you so much for having me here today!

One of the things I love best about being a writer is being able to share so many of my favorite things and that includes the places and things that I’ve been lucky enough to experience first hand.

For example, I based the THE FIFTH KINGDOM on my travels to Mexico and a hike up the side of a Mexican pyramid despite my fear of heights.

THE LOST is located along one of my really really favorite places – the Jersey Shore. I’m not all that far from the beach and regularly go down to take long walks through all the assorted towns in order to research places for the novels in the Sin Hunters series.

Take the chase scene in THE LOST where Bobbie and Adam are forced to confront some men who have been following them. To write that scene, I walked nearly three miles from my usual haunts to Belmar and then Avon-by-Sea and back. Along the way I snapped photos of where the pivotal scene would occur in front of the Avon Pavilion.

When I was done with that, I turned my attentions to the other locations for the book, especially the town of Ocean Grove, also know as God’s Little Square Mile.

Bobbie Carrera has her condo in Ocean Grove and there are a number of scenes along the boardwalk there as well as the big black moment when Bobbie confronts Adam and asks him to have faith. I knew as I wrote that scene that there was only one place where it could happen: On the Auditorium Grounds in front of the famous Great Auditorium.

You may be wondering why I would pick somewhere like the Jersey Shore for a dark and sexy paranormal romance like THE LOST.

For starters, it’s possibly the last place that you would probably expect an ancient race of energy gatherers to be hiding out – the ol’ “hide in plain sight” concept.

Second, there is nature all around at the shore, from the ocean to the river to the many wetlands and small islands where a race like the Hunters could go to collect energy without being detected.

Not that Adam understands anything about being a Hunter at the start of THE LOST.

Adam is the missing son of Hunter leaders and has no clue that he possesses such powers. All that Adam knows is that he is different and that difference has kept him isolated from most of the world around him. It is only when he meets Bobbie and is drawn into a civil war he knew nothing about that Adam truly comes to understand the immense powers of which he is capable.

I hope you will like finding out more about Adam, Bobbie and the Hunters as well as my beloved Jersey Shore. Maybe you’ll even be able to visit one day and talk a long stroll with me through the many beautiful towns that call to me so powerfully. Maybe you’ll even see a familiar site from something I’ve included in one of the SIN HUNTER books.

Thanks so much for having me here today! I appreciate you taking the time to come by.

Do you write to relax after a long day or does writing invigorate you?

Thank you for sharing your world. I wish you continued success.

Caridad you know how much I loved and enjoyed The Lost! I'm eagerly (and well patient enough for me) waiting for more!

The Carrera family rocks!

Hehe. I already own a Lost T-shirt! Showing support to a favorite author.

Did you always know you wanted to be a writer or did you have a different career in mind for yourself?

Great Post by Caridad. The Lost sounds like such an amazing book. I love paranormal romances and this sounds like it could be right up my alley. I really enjoyed your story Honor Calls so if The Lost is even half as great I am going to be in seventh heaven.

Love the cover, his eyes are arresting. Which of your own books is your favorite, and why? and if you don't have a favorite, which one was the most difficult to write and why?

Lost sounds like a series I would really enjoy. I haven't read any of Caridad's stories before, but I just started reading A Vampire for Christmas. I look forward to reading her story within the anthology. I love your name, by the way.

I think it is cool that you can incorporate some of your own loves into the stories; in this case locations. The reader is treated to a little more reality and believability when the location actually exists. I know I would get a kick out of visiting Jersey and seeing the Avon Pavilion. I would be excited and gush "OOOOH! This is where the "confrontation" took place." Little pleasures make me happy. :)

I added The Lost to me "to-read" list. Can't wait to give it a shot! Thanks for the interview!

I think it's so interesting that you work locations that you really know into your books. Would you ever go somewhere, like Tibet to get the experience of the place so you could use the location in your work?
I've read so many excellent reviews of THE LOST and am looking forward to reading it myself. Thank you so much.

Thank you all for coming by! So many great questions. Writing invigorates me, but I don't usually write at night. I have a full time job still and don't have the energy to right after a long day, but I write on the train to and from work.

I've wanted to be a writer since the fifth grade, but still work as an attorney in NYC.

Picking a favorite book is like picking a favorite child. Some are more special than others, but definitely THE LOST, DARKNESS CALLS, MORE THAN A MISSION and FURY CALLS rank up there as favorites for so many different reasons.

The one that was hardest to write was THE LOST because I had to develop a very different mythology and world before even putting pen to paper.

As for visiting somewhere like Tibet, I would so totally love that. I love to travel and hope that I'll get to do more of that soon.

The pictures are beautiful...*S* I live in Alaska and have missed the lower 48 states and the separate seasons. In the interior there is a short spring and short summer and fall, but a long 6 months of winter. The pictures of your Jersey are so green! That's what I miss are the pine trees of my northwest too. Love Alaska, but I would love to read your series...*S*
thank you for the giveaway!

Thank you, Lyndee for wearing the shirt. THE CALLING series will be back in 2012 and I am working on a new Diana and Ryder book for you.

Darcy - I can't imagine living in Alaska. I sooo do not handle the cold well.

Jersey is the Garden State for sure and I love the shore. My goal for next year is to do a kayak trip with a friend through some of the wetland areas and offshore islands.

Loved the interview. You are a new author for me and always looking for new books and authors to check out. Thanks for the giveaway and the chance to win.
My question is if you could write any other genre, what would you write? Also any favorite authors or books that you recommend?

Caridad - Your cover really draws me and the story is intriguing. I'm new to this genre, but it looks like I won't be able to say that for long with books like this on my reading list.
